Correspondents: Joseph Parker Norris and Mrs. Horace Silsby. Also, letter from O.S. Long of the Wheeling Shakespeare Club to [Norris], April 18, 1881. The majority of the letters are to Norris. Leighton airs his views on Shakespeare, referring frequently to Joseph Crosby, and discusses the progress of his own poems. He quotes an opinion of J.G. Whittier on At the court of King Edwin (38), and one of F.J. Furnivall (88). There is a copy of a letter from Leighton to Tennyson with a tracing of Tennyson's reply in (12) and a copy of a letter to Leighton from Moncure D. Conway in (14). Enclosed with (14) is a printed notice of his poem The sons of Godwin from the Literary World, February 1, 1877. Mrs. Silsby wanted to include several of Leighton's poems in a volume of Shakespeare poems, Tributes to Shakespeare, 1892. Two sonnets on Shakespeare are enclosed in (118).
